Tavna Monastery is an Orthodox monastery first mentioned in 1548. The church of the monastery was frescoed, probably at the beginning of the 17th century. Its frescoes are very reminiscent of the frescoes of the monasteries of Žitomislić and Ozren, which were made between 1608 and 1609. During the Second World War, in July 1941, the Ustashas (Croatian fascists) dispersed and interned the monks. The monastery was bombed several times and in 1943, when a partisan hospital took refuge in the monastery, the Ustasha army set fire to the dormitory. At that time, the library and old writings were completely destroyed but the church was somewhat preserved.

The monastery of Panayia Hozoviotissa, dating back to the 11th century, is one of the oldest and most important ecclesiastical monuments in Greece. It is located on Mount Profitis Elias, 300 meters above the Aegean Sea.

The Osenovlashky Monastery, most popularly known as the Seven Altars Monastery, is a monastic complex in the picturesque valley of the river Gabrovitsa.

The current building of the Timios Stavros Monastery dates from 1816 and replaces an old Byzantine church. Today, the monastery has a dual use, as a parish church and as a museum of Byzantine icons.

Kloosterburen has been a Roman Catholic enclave for centuries in the predominantly Calvinist Groningen. Only the heavy saddle roof tower from 1685 is owned by the Oude Groninger Kerken Foundation. Inside the tower there is a clock cast by Geert van Wou in 1501, probably from the tower of the church in Groningen.

The Monastery of the Transfiguration is the largest of the monasteries around Veliko Tarnovo and the fourth in Bulgaria. It was founded during the second kingdom of Bulgaria in the 13th and 14th centuries, but the main current buildings were built in the first half of the 19th century.

The monastery of Treskavets was built from the 13th to the 14th. It was destroyed and rebuilt by the Serbian ruler Stefan Uroš II Milutin (1282-1321), and he is registered as "Ktetor" (founder) in the monastery. Partially abandoned in the 15th century, it has been restored several times since then. The monastery was seriously damaged by a fire in 2013.

Although less well known than the Rila Monastery or the Bachkovo Monastery, the Troyan Monastery is a popular destination for religious tourism in the Balkans. The monastery was built at the turn of the 16th to 17th century and houses one of the most treasured icons of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church: the Three-Handed Virgin.

The monastery of Tvrdos was built on the foundations of a church that dates back to the 4th century AD, before the Christianisation of the Serbs. The foundations of this church are visible in the monastery through a glass floor. The Tvrdoš Monastery was built around 1509, and in 1517 it was decorated with frescoes by the Dubrovnik painter Vice Lovrov. During a conflict with the Turks, Tvrdoš was destroyed by the Venetians in 1694. Immediately in the first years of the 18th century, there were several attempts to rebuild the ruined monastery.
