The remains of the Mustafa Bey Mosque, also known as Koja Mustafa Pasha Mosque, reflect the Ottoman past of the town of Serres. The building was constructed 500 years ago. Its dome was covered with lead. It is located near Ottoman baths.
Skopje, MK
Mustafa Pasha Mosque was built in 1492, according to the testament of the vizier Mustafa Pasha. The building of the mosque is a typical of the early Ottoman architecture. Originally, the complex comprised a türbe (tomb), a shadirvan (fountain), a minaret and a madrasa (school).
Ulcinj, ME
The Namazgjah Mosque is the main mosque in Ulcinj. It was erected in 1728 with a minaret, a madrasah (now destroyed). In 2011, a restoration of the mosque's facade has been started.
Elbasan, AL
Built in the 16 century, the mosque was partially (its minaret balcony and roof) damaged in 1920 due to an earthquake.
Nemėžis, LT
The Nemėžis Mosque is a Tartar mosque first built in 1684. The present mosque, built in 1909, suffered much neglect during the Soviet era. In 1978 the mosque was returned to the Muslim community and from 1993 it was repaired.
Rethymno, GR
The Neratze Mosque, formerly the Santa Maria Church, was a monastery church converted into a mosque in 1657. Today, the building is a cultural centre for the municipality of Rethymno.
Mostar, BA
Nesuh-Aga Vučjaković Mosque was built in the 16th century. It is very close to Karađoz Bey Mosque, to which it is very similar in style.
Bitola, MK
The Yeni Mosque or "New Mosque" was built in the 1550s on a former church site dating back to the 7th century. In 1950, the surrounding park was built and the mosque was declared a cultural monument and turned into an art gallery .
Durrës, AL
The Great Mosque of Durrës, also known as the New Mosque, was built from 1931 onwards. There were plans to build two minarets, but one of them remained unfinished due to the cessation of work at the end of 1938. In 1967, the mosque was transformed into the Palace of Youth (Palace of Culture). The mosque was restored after the communist regime in 1994 and a second time in 2005.
