The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. The oldest preserved gravestone relates to the first half of the 18th century, so it can be assumed that the cemetery emerged during that period. According to the VAAD database, there is a gravestone of 1667, but it was not detected by ESJF surveyors team. The cemetery first appears on Austrian maps of the 1880s and, later, it was also marked on a Polish map of 1939.

The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. Presumably, it appears on maps of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 1880s. The cemetery was photographed by Wisia Freud in 1938. It was fenced and well-maintained as most of the cemeteries in Galician shtetls. The site was fenced by ESJF in 2017.

Yakob Glanzer Synagogue in Lviv

The synagogue was built by a rich Hasid Yakob Glanzer and was the first oficial Hasidic synagogue in Lviv. In 1912, the building was reconstructed according to the design of Włodzimierz Podhorodecki. The synagogue was closed by the Soviet authorities in 1962. In 1990, the former synagogue was transferred to the Society for Jewish Culture and from 1993 it belongs to the religious community. Remains of the wall paintings were discovered in 2011.

The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. The cemetery could not be found marked on old maps of the region. Supposedly, it was founded in the second half of the 19th century. According to locals, the gravestones date to the late 20th century. The cemetery is abandoned and its land is used for cattle grazing.

The Old Jewish cemetery of Yampil is situated on the bank of the Dniester river, on the eastern outskirts of the town. It was established in the early 18th century and today contains around 150 matzevot, dating back to the late 18th to early 20th century.

Yanbol Synagogue

Originally built during the Byzantine time, Yanbol synagogue was later used by the Jewish community that migrated to Istanbul from the town of Yanbol, Bulgaria thus it is also known as the Bulgarian Synagogue. The main structure is wood, and the ceiling of the main prayer hall is decorated with landscape oil paintings. Today it is open only on major holidays and for some Shabbat services.

The Yelets Assumption Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is one of the oldest monasteries in Ukraine, founded in 1060 by Prince Sviatoslav II of Kiev. It was destroyed in 1239 during the Mongol invasion. In 1623 it was restored under the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth and handed over to the Greek Catholic Church. In 1649 it was taken over by the Orthodox and was completely rebuilt in the Ukrainian Baroque style between 1669 and 1688.
