Saint-Vivien Church, Rouen

Progressive and very extensive construction over time: after a fire in the 13th century, the building was rebuilt. Several works to enlarge it followed, notably the construction of the nave in the 10th century, and the construction of the tower in the 16th century.

About this building

Oriented church of elongated plan, with a three-sided apse. The façade consists of a bell tower and two gable walls, the central wall of which is pierced by a pointed arch portal.

Saint-Maclou Church, Rouen

The church is undergoing several phases of destruction and then reconstruction. It was demolished in 1203, before being rebuilt in 1210, and was in a state of ruin in the 10th century, until it was rebuilt in 1436. The spire is in turn destroyed in 1735, before being rebuilt in the 19th century. Finally, the bombings of 1944 did not spare the choir, which was hit.

Saint-Godard Church, Rouen

After the first Norman destruction in the 9th century, the building was rebuilt in the 10th century and was not completed until 1250, after which it underwent several modifications and additions such as the chapels of the collaterals, shortly afterwards, or decorations for the portal or the spire.

Rouen Cathedral

Notre-Dame Cathedral has been extensively modified since the 4th century, thus explaining the lack of homogeneity. The building dates mainly from the 12th and first half of the 13th century.
