This cathedral was built by the Jesuits in the 17th century, replacing the medieval cathedral that was in its place. The architecture is unique, blending both baroque and gothic styles, as is its rotunda shape, which is not typical for Dalmatia. There are unique stained glass windows featuring a gothic cross as well as St. Vitus himself. There is also a cannonball lodged into the wall near the entrance, which dates from the Napoleonic wars.
The Serbian Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas was completed in 1790. It was designed by the local architect Ignazio Hencke. The construction was funded by Serbians who had fled the Ottoman Empire and had settled in Flume (which is now Rijeka).
The Orthodox Synagogue in Rijeka was built in 1932 by architects Vittorio Angyal and P. Fabbrio. This Art Deco brick building still serves as a synagogue.
The Islamic Centre and Mosque of Rijke opened in 2013. The building was designed by Croatian sculptor Dušan Džamonja in cooperation with Branko Vučinović and Darko Vlahović. The mosque has been described as a masterpiece of contemporary mosque architecture.
