The name used to be Oosterkerk. The interior of the church, built in 1967, has been renovated. The liturgical centre has been adapted and placed on a podium. Built as a Reformed church, replacing a temporary wooden church built in 1963. Sober modern building without a tower. Since 2005 also in use by the Christian community Bethanië. On Sunday 8 October 2006, the first service of the new Bethanië community was held in De Schakel. The community started small in Ureterp. Due to growth, they moved to Wijnjewoude and now a larger home has been found in Drachten. The community focuses mainly on people who live on the fringes of society. (57-07)
