The church of Biggekerke is known to have been founded before 1247 as a daughter church of the Westmonster church in Middelburg. Until 1453, there were even two pastors' positions attached to it. During the Reformation, it also caused quite a stir here. The pastor at the time, Bernard Donder, was a convinced Calvinist and renounced the Roman Catholic church in 1566. Since then, he has also preached the Reformation in Biggekerke, something for which he had to pay with imprisonment. After being released and imprisoned several times, he fled to England or Germany. After this, a period began in which people could only meet secretly and in small numbers, in someone's house. But then, when Middelburg declared itself loyal to Orange, the Reformation could develop. At that time, there was still the problem that there were too few pastors, but in 1583, the classis of Walcheren assigned the first pastor to Biggekerke, the Rev. J. van Aecken.

Reformed Church. Originally an octagonal building with a mansard roof and a domed roof turret, built in 1815-1816 to a design by A. Tollus. Founded by a donation from King William I. Enlarged in 1850 to a rectangular space, retaining three sides of the original design. The interior was thoroughly modernised in 1958. Organ with two manuals and pedal by Bakker and Timmenga (Leeuwarden) from 1899. Mechanical tower clock of French make, first quarter of the 20th century.

The building consists of a Romanesque single-aisled nave (12th century) and a late Gothic choir with two side chapels and a sacristy. The nave walls are built of primeval stone up to three-quarters of their height; each has a round-arched gate closed with brick. The vaults, which collapsed in 1747, were re-installed in the choir during the restoration in 1961; the nave has retained a wooden pointed barrel vault. Oak pulpit (18th century).

Historic village church with tower. The Reformed parish Dorpskerk is part of the Protestant community of Capelle aan den IJssel (PgC) within the Protestant Church in the Netherlands (PKN).

The Dorpskerk Huizum (12th cent.) is the oldest monument of the city of Leeuwarden, has a very valuable interior and is now used for concerts, exhibitions, lectures etc. The great building with old graveyard, bier house etc, was never visited so often as nowadays. Location: Huizum Dorp 67, a 15 minutes walk from the Central Station through a nice 'green blew' area along the beautiful river Potmarge. The village church of Aalsmeer (Dorpskerk) is a Protestant place of worship. The building was completed in 1549 and was originally a Catholic church. It became a Protestant church in 1586. It is currently protected as a National Monument of the Netherlands.

In the south of the capital of Friesland is a real village church: the John the Baptist Church of Huizum. The church has been owned by the Alde Fryske Tsjerken Foundation since 2014. The local commission organizes a range of activities. Due to its special appearance and size (180 seats), the church is also a popular location for commemorations (funerals) and for wedding ceremonies.
