Strängnäs domkyrka
Strängnäs, SE
The construction of Strängnäs Cathedral began in the 13th century when Strängnäs became a diocese. It was consecrated in 1291, but work continued in the following centuries. Work stopped in 1342 when only the nave and aisles were completed. The choir was added in the 15th century. The present characteristic baroque tower was built in 1739-45 by Peter Gerdes' builder according to plans by Carl Hårleman. It is one of the Swedish cathedrals that has retained most of its medieval character.
