The Church of St. Nicholas is a late Romanesque church built around 1250-60, and for the western part, probably until 1300. The present elongated choir was enlarged in 1758. The present appearance of the building owes much to the restoration between 1949 and 1956 by the architect Kaare Klint (1888-1954).

The Church of St. Nicholas was built in 1280 in honour of St. Nicholas, patron saint of sailors, fishermen and merchants. During the Second World War, the church was severely damaged, except for the surrounding walls. In 1994, a support group was founded to preserve the church. In 1995, St. Nicholas received an emergency roof, when it was gradually put into use. Since 1999, the church has been reopened to the public.

The church of St. Nicholas was first mentioned in 1526, but the present church dates mainly from the end of the 18th century. Pastor Kajetan Konc had the church vaulted with bricks in 1846, before that it had a wooden ceiling.

The Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas was built before 1725 and rebuilt in 1864. In 1868 an iconostasis was made and a vestibule was added. Since then it has been known as the Church of St. Nicholas. After being closed by the communist regime, the church was returned to the faithful in 1989.

According to the inscription above the door of the wooden Church of St. Nicholas, the building was constructed in 1779. This makes it the youngest of the Khust Gothic Maramorosh churches. A wooden bell tower was built near the building. The church is one of the best examples of wooden architecture located around the Tissa river. The building has been restored in 1968.
