New neo-Gothic St. John's Church with roof turret, tower not built. The church replaced the adjacent "Little St. John" from the thirteenth century. This beautiful neo-Gothic church, and the historic Little St. John, are the only church buildings still in use in the Hoensbroek Parish.

De Kwakel, NL
Interesting modern church. The current modern church designed by architect JH de Groot was built in 1967-1968 (first pile laid 19-10-1967, first stone laid 28-1-1968, consecrated 21-12-1968). It is a square hall church with a heavy tower in the shape of a coal scuttle above the chancel. Behind this chancel is a large colorful stained glass window. The church replaced the neo-Gothic church designed by EJ Margry from 1874, which was demolished due to decay.

The church consists of a nave from 1836-1838, built by the water board inspector J. van der Reydt, a transept and choir from 1932 by J. Franssen and a west tower from 1908-1910, probably designed by C. Franssen. The latter remains to be verified.

Large three-aisled neo-Gothic cruciform church, built in 1867 to a design by HJ van Tulder. The construction of the west tower, with four sections and a constricted spire, was started in 1893-1894, also by Van Tulder, and completed in 1899 by architect J. Heykants. Internal plastered cross vaults. The interior includes a high altar from 1879-1880, probably by Van Tulder. Organ with neo-Gothic organ case from 1876, made by the Gebr. Franssen (Roermond), wind chests and action modified by them in 1915.
